Tạm biệt Festival Huế 2010!

Tối 13.6, tại bãi bồi cầu Gia Hội, hướng ra sông Hương (TP Huế), chương trình nghệ thuật bế mạc đã khép lại Festival Huế 2010.

Hội tụ và lan tỏa
Tại cuộc họp báo giữa kỳ festival, ông Ngô Hòa - Phó chủ tịch UBND tỉnh Thừa Thiên - Huế, Trưởng ban tổ chức Festival, cho biết: "Thành công mà Festival Huế mang lại không phải là những con số về lượng khách, về nguồn thu mà là sức lan tỏa của những giá trị văn hóa Huế và VN đến với bạn bè khắp 5 châu".
Festival Huế giờ đây đã lan tỏa và hội tụ qua các chương trình nghệ thuật đến từ nhiều quốc gia, vùng lãnh thổ và nền văn hóa khác nhau. Chương trình nào cũng hấp dẫn và độc đáo. Chẳng hạn đoàn nghệ thuật cà kheo của Vương quốc Bỉ xuất hiện ngộ nghĩnh trên đường phố Huế thu hút sự chú ý của khán giả. Dù đã góp mặt ở kỳ festival 2008, các nghệ sĩ cà kheo Bỉ vẫn quay lại tái ngộ cùng công chúng tại festival năm nay.

Rồi các nghệ sĩ đường phố Pháp rong ruổi qua các điểm diễn trên những chiếc xe do máy cày kéo đã làm công chúng Huế vô cùng thích thú; nghệ sĩ guitar Paco Renteria (Mexico) thì làm nức lòng khán giả với phong cách âm nhạc La-tinh sôi động, tự nhiên và cuồng nhiệt. Khán giả Huế dù rụt rè đến mấy vẫn không thể kìm nổi nhịp nhảy trước tiếng đàn guitar của nghệ sĩ Paco Renteria, hay không thể bỏ qua các tiết mục của đoàn múa Odissi (Ấn Độ), đoàn Jedliniok (Ba Lan), ban nhạc jazz Kimotion Vs2 (Mỹ), vũ đoàn Raduga Divertisment - Flamingo (Nga), đoàn múa rối TOF (Bỉ)...
Bên cạnh đó là các ngôi sao, nghệ sĩ tên tuổi trong nước cũng hội tụ về festival như Phó A My với cuộc "hôn phối" giữa piano và tuồng Việt, hay giọng hát trong trẻo trong tiếng guitar đầy triển vọng của cô gái 19 tuổi Lê Cát Trọng Lý; rồi Ánh Tuyết cùng tiếng dương cầm lão luyện của nhạc sĩ Nguyễn Ánh 9 và các nghệ sĩ trong chương trình Trịnh Công Sơn... Mỗi đoàn để lại cho công chúng cảm nhận và ấn tượng riêng về sự đa dạng của các nền văn hóa.
Vẫn còn những "hạt sạn"

Theo thống kê của Ban tổ chức, Festival Huế 2010 đã thu hút một lượng khách du lịch đông kỷ lục: hơn 120.000 lượt khách trong 9 ngày đêm (tăng gần 30% so với năm 2008), trong đó có hơn 38 ngàn lượt khách quốc tế. Đặc biệt lần đầu tiên, lượng khách châu Âu chiếm đến 34% tổng khách nước ngoài, số còn lại đến từ Tây Bắc Á (hơn 14%), châu Mỹ (hơn 14%), Việt kiều (hơn 12%).

Tại buổi họp báo giữa kỳ Festival Huế 2010, ông Phùng Phu - Giám đốc Trung tâm Bảo tồn di tích cố đô Huế, đơn vị thực hiện 4 chương trình lễ hội cung đình, gồm: Lễ tế Giao, Đêm Hoàng cung, Hành trình mở cõi và Huyền thoại sông Hương, tiêu tốn hơn 12,7 tỉ đồng - cho rằng: "Chúng tôi cố gắng tiến đến khôi phục ngày càng chân xác hơn các lễ hội cung đình". Thế nhưng, tính chân xác ấy vẫn chưa được thực hiện một cách nghiêm túc.
TS Trần Đức Anh Sơn, nguyên Giám đốc Bảo tàng cổ vật cung đình Huế, phát biểu: "Quan điểm của tôi trước sau như một, đó là ủng hộ việc khôi phục các lễ tế Nam Giao, Xã Tắc... vì ý nghĩa nhân văn sâu sắc của nó. Tuy nhiên, phải phân biệt đó là sản phẩm du lịch hay là các lễ tế thật. Nếu là sản phẩm du lịch thì cần phải cho công chúng, du khách vào xem để bán vé, thu tiền và ở đó anh có quyền thêu dệt, có quyền sáng tạo. Còn nếu khôi phục lễ tế thật thì cái gì lịch sử đã khép lại, không nên cố "dựng lên". Bây giờ không có vua, thì việc gì phải đóng giả, hãy để người dân là chủ thể của lễ hội, còn chính quyền, các nhà tổ chức là người hỗ trợ. Ở lễ tế như vậy vẫn có thể giữ nguyên những lễ nghi phẩm tiết, đạo cụ, lễ nhạc... trang nghiêm nhưng chỉ cần rước bài vị của lễ tế là đủ".
Festival Huế 2010 đã khép lại với lời chào lưu luyến trên sông Hương, hẹn gặp lại ở Festival Huế 2012. Hy vọng sau mỗi kỳ festival, các chương trình nghệ thuật và lễ hội sẽ được lựa chọn, chắt lọc, đánh giá và nhìn nhận một cách nghiêm túc hơn.

Music, dance and fashion pieces blended seamlessly into a cultural mosaic

Mexican guitarist, singer and composer, Paco Renteria, whose philosophy is “sing as if tomorrow never comes” composed a song about Vietnam titled
Sleeping in and lazing about in the hotel room were not options during the recent Hue Festival. With around 15 events and performances each day, the hardest part was choosing which to attend.
The lyrical landscape of King Tu Duc’s Tomb was brought to life by French artist Denis Tricot, who had constructed one of his trademark wood installations: cylindrical wood beams hung with wires that swirled through the hills and courtyards.
At the tomb, Tricot’s elegant birch wood strings curved and rippled like endless waves and graceful pine-tree hills. The lines hid themselves in garden leaves and reappeared at the lake house, only to disappear again into the lotus pond surrounding the Tu Duc Tomb.
Tricot said the interwoven wooden threads appeared to invite and draw visitors to the palace.
“At first, people were a bit indifferent to my work, but when it developed, people become curious, and appreciated it.”
He said he owed the success to hardworking Vietnamese assistants.
“They really concentrated and openly gave their opinion on the work. That kind of thing in young people encourages and inspires me with new ideas. The young handicraft workers in France are not like that.”
At night, the Dai Noi (Royal Citadel) shone bright with several brilliantly-colored stages. All kinds of music and art performances made for what seemed like an endless party of singing and dancing. Each stage was located far enough from the others so the sounds did not overlap.
Russian dreams
Walking around the citadel, visitors found themselves pulled in various directions, with each new stage inviting observers to stay, while others urged the adventure to continue.

The most popular show was probably a performance by Divertisement Flamingo, a dance troupe from Russia.
A young contingent of dancers from 8 to 24 years old combined classical ballet, traditional Russian moves, and sport dances. The performance was both controlled and wild, with most kids in the audience smiling from ear to ear, eyes wide with excitement at the quick and vivid movements of the young dancers threading their way through colorful ensemble of festive music.
Saranchuk Inna said this was the third time her group had performed at the Hue Festival.
“We were very happy with the audience and this encouraged us to dance better.”
At first, groups of children watching the performance were too scared and shy to come close. But as the dancers hit their stride, the kids slowly moved closer and closer, eyes glued to the artists.
Several walked up after the show and gave the dancers flowers.
“Although we couldn’t talk directly to each other, I felt their love.”
Inna also felt her artistic connection with Vietnam go the other way. She was very impressed with the Vietnamese performances she saw that night.
“I like Vietnamese and traditional Hue dancing with its music and hand dancing. My daughter likes to dance with hand and finger movements like Vietnamese dancers.”
Inna and Divertisement even performed their own dance with conical hats inspired by traditional Vietnamese dancing.
“I only wish more Vietnamese performances were translated into English or Russian,” she said.
From Mexico with love
Mexican singer-songwriter Paco Renteria was a highlight of the evening. He lived up to his stated credo of singing “as if tomorrow will never come.”
The stage in front of Renteria was also crowded with youthful spirits dancing and singing along. In a loose and light outfit that looked like an Indian kurta, and with his long hair and bare feet, Renteria looked like some kind of priest whose bible and belief were music and love. It was not merely the performance, but the emotional conversations of music between Renteria’s voice, guitar and his drummer and trumpeter.
“I have a mission and that is to give my heart to the stage,” he said. He certainly fulfilled it that night.

Highly popular award-winning artists and bands from seven countries will perform for the first time at the biennial Hue Festival in June.
Festival organizers said artists from a total of 27 countries including Vietnam will perform during the festival.

This year’s edition will welcome first-time participants from Cuba, Denmark, Haiti, Mexico, Norway, Poland, and Senegal.

Cuba will send the Los Tradiconales band which has won many national and international awards during their 58 years, while Denmark is going to bring one of their oldest bands, MI22, which gathers musicians from the famous Rhythmic Music Institute in Copenhagen.

The music band from Haiti will be conducted by Bélo, a singer, songwriter and guitarist who has won several awards including the Prix RFI Découvertes 2006.

Guitarist Paco Rentería will represent Mexico. Rentería is considered the most successful guitarist in the country’s history. President Felipe Calderón this year named him the music ambassador for Mexico.

Poland will send traditional art troupe Jedliniok, named after a dance from the Jedlina Zdrój region. The dance troupe has represented Poland at many international traditional art festivals.

New approach

The festival, which will last for nine days (June 5-13), will deploy a modern twist to traditional arts in presenting four main events: Dem hoang cung (Royal night); Le te Nam giao (Nam Giao offering ritual), Hanh trinh mo coi (The country’s revolutionary history) and Huyen thoai Song Huong (Legend of the Perfume River).

The events will be a combination of concerts, parades and lighting shows.

Le Quy Duong, events director for the festival, said that apart from preserving and presenting the traditional culture and arts of Hue Town, the programs will use hitherto unused art approaches to distinguish Vietnamese characters in an international cultural milieu.
